Contrary to the rumours of recent weeks, there will be no abolition of the barcode by 2027! The classic barcode will merely be supplemented with 2D codes where more information is needed!
The currently predominant linear barcode can only be used to identify a product. With a 2D code, on the other hand, a variety of other data, such as serial number, date or batch, can be stored: Serial number, date or batch. This information plays an extremely important role in production, logistics and worldwide product safety!
This further development also offers many advantages for the customer. Consumer information, such as the exact origin of a raw material or the place of production, but also recipes, care instructions, disposal recommendations and countless other additional information can be accessed via the 2D codes.
It is also simply wrong to claim that the scanners used in trade up to now are no longer usable! Most of the devices used today can already read barcodes and also 2D codes.
The addition of 2D codes to barcodes is thus a further step towards digitalisation!
