Autoclave compatible transponders from Xerafy for our customer implantcast!

The company implantcast GmbH is a highly specialized medical technology company, which among other things is active in the areas of development, production and distribution of various prostheses. Our RFID solutions complement the fully automated warehouse of Knapp AG in the different sectors and ensure a complete automation of the sophisticated intralogistics from incoming to outgoing goods.

In order to make the return process and the storage/retrieval of products much more efficient, a solution based on RFID technology was introduced. Each product is uniquely identified with an RFID tag and all workstations are equipped with RFID reading stations. This allows up to 150 products to be recorded simultaneously at the respective stations in a matter of seconds.

With the transponders of our partner company Xerafy it was possible to implement our innovative solution also in the area of the sterilization process of the metal trays! Surgical tools are transported in these reusable transport containers, which must be sterilized in the autoclave after being returned from the hospital.

Xerafy’s on-metal RFID tag, the Micro X II, which is temperature resistant up to +250°C, is used to uniquely identify the trays.
Designed specifically for the demanding requirements of the healthcare sector, the transponder promises to withstand repeated chemical cleaning and sterilization cycles in autoclaves at high temperatures without loss of quality, thanks to its IP69K protection rating and high-performance polymer housing.

The transponder was mechanically screwed onto a tray by implantcast and tested for ten washing cycles. After the test, the transponder was still readable and writable without any problems. In further tests in our in-house measurement laboratory, no defects or differences to an unused transponder could be detected either.

In the daily treatment process, the trays are now treated with the correct cleaning solution with permissible pH value and subjected to thermal disinfection, steam sterilization and machine cleaning with high purified water. Even after countless sterilization cycles over the last 5 years, the reading and writing of the transponders works without any problems and continues to support our RFID solution flawlessly!
