RFID applicators automate Track & Trace!

For a well-known manufacturer of cross-laminated timber elements, we installed a track & trace system using RFID to monitor the entire production process.

Each element is uniquely identified at the start of production with an RFID label, which is applied in the intermediate layers.

The RFID label, which we designed and produced especially for this project, fulfils the requirements for reliable RFID reading at the required distance, adhesion to damp wood and high pressure during the pressing process of gluing.

With Logopak, we found a partner who could satisfy the special project requirements in the area of application. The label is programmed and checked directly before application by the RFID read/write unit built into the applicator and then applied to the wooden elements. To ensure an error-free process, the applicator was adapted and optimised for the newly developed label.

The necessary control of the applicator was developed by us and is directly connected to the PLC control of the installation. All RFID data records are managed in our system, merged with the product data and further edited in downstream processes.

Thanks to the cooperation with Logopak, it was possible to map the entire project requirement profile and to fulfil the customer’s wishes to their complete satisfaction.
